My central A/C unit went out yesterday and we called a repairman. the official problem is that the compresser unit went bad, causing a short, causing the blower unit to go bad (the suggested problem is that maybe an eclectric current was sent through a copper pipe under the house). Somewhere along the way the 15 pound freon (offically known as r-22) tank’s contents became “burned” as in the freon has now got a funny smell to it and is now unsuable.
