Resolved Question: Business: Do I really need a full time accountant for many company?

by admin on Nov.27, 2009, under Air Conditioner

I am the owner of a small company that sells air conditioners (and just air conditioners). The company was just established in Oct of 2009 and is currently applying to become an s-corp.

The accountant i have right now is charging me $70 a month for record keeping and another $600 at the end of the year for the annual tax return. I am wondering if it will be a smart move to do everything myself(saving $70 a month) and only pay him $600 at the end of the year to do my tax return for the company. My company is small (only my dad and I are involved), air conditioners are very seasonal, and i dont see him really doing any record keeping. I am able to do the BOE’s quarterly sales taxes myself, i keep all the receipts and sales records, and until the summer seaon starts, the company only has $1000-$4000 worth of sales a month.

Should i just stop paying him monthly and do all the record keeping myself? Is it really that hard that i need an account for? Or are there other record keeping things for an s-corp i missed that is best done by an actual financial accountant rather than me?

thanks! any information is greatly appreciated!
